Do Homework Before Hiring Pest Control

Now that summer and warmer weather are approaching, its time to think about those unwanted pests that invade our homes and property. Many people will be considering hiring a pest control company to take care of their pest problems. As a board member of the Wisconsin Pest Control Association and a business owner, I’d like to offer some important guidelines for homeowners to follow in selecting a pest control company.

The company you hire will most likely be treating the interior of your home. You’re going to want the assurance and peace of mind that the person is trustworthy and competent. The following are some important questions every homeowner needs to ask before selecting a pest control company: How long have you been in business? Do you have any references? Are you licensed, insured and bonded? Do you perform criminal background checks on your employees? Is your company a member of the Wisconsin & The National Pest Control Associations? Do you participate in continuing educational opportunities offered by industry associations? Are your service technicians certified and licensed? Do you have a company website where I can get additional information?

Ask to see copies of licenses and liability insurance certificates. Check with the Better Business Bureau to see if any complaints have been registered. Last but not least, don’t settle for anything less than an unconditional money back guarantee.
